I did this project because in my own community I saw a need for change in the basketball community. On my high school basketball team I noticed that some girls were quitting and at many schools in my area there was not all three levels of teams because there was not enough interest from girls. I wanted to make my basketball community around me a greater place to be by inspiring, increasing camaraderie, creating community and skillsets from middle to high school. When you play a game of basketball it can get pretty fierce on the court, so I also wanted to introduce ways proven to lower stress levels and I did this through art.
I asked them! That is the first step. Every single person or businessI asked in my community was willing to help me. Be flexible because sometimes they cannot meet your exact needs but if your flexible you will find that your commmunity is there to help you.
Use the system provided by Girl Scouts daily to log your time, it will make your life so much easier! Your Girl Scout community is there to help you, if you need more support reach out to them. Ask girls who have done a Girl Scout Gold project when you get stuck or need help how they did things in their project the whole Girl Scout community is there to support you through this. And choose something you are passionate about! If you do you will really enjoy your project and the impact you make in the world will be so much greater!
Yes! I plan on continuing to do things for my basketball Community after my project! If you have an idea and are willing to do the work I bet you will be able to find people and resources in your community to help make that idea happen . Do lots of planning and be ready to explain your idea, and don't give up. Keep trying if you hit a roadblock, some of my events took a lot of trying to make things happen.
If your looking to join a basketball team or learn even more skills, try calling your city recreation department, many cities have a basketball team for youths, and even adults! You can also do a simple good search "basketball teams near me for girls", and you can even google the same for skills "basketball skills sessions near me for girls". Also if you have a PE teacher at your school or Athletic Director and you cannot find where you can get started in a group setting, talk to them they usually are willing to help you find your way to becoming active in sports!
